Not for the faint hearted – a couple of nasty sporting cuts
I WISH I could claim some noble reason for this post, defend it as a thought-provoking piece of prose – but I can’t.
In truth, these words are just a bit of dressing which allow me to use the following gratuitous pictures…
While watching UFC 119 this weekend I looked on, mouth agog, as Evan Dunham returned to his corner during his fight with Sean Sherk -and a cut which wouldn’t have looked out of place in a scene of crime photo was revealed.

It’s not nice, I know. But despite the hole in his face, Dunham managed to avoid his mind falling out onto the canvas and battled former lightweight champion Sherk all the way to the end of their fight before losing a controversial decision. For the record, I thought he won clearly.
Now forgive me readers, but no blog on such matters can be complete without adding in a picture of the worst cut I’ve ever seen in an MMA fight. Admit it, you’re thinking the same thing. Don’t be ashamed.
So here it is – Marvin Eastman’s skull (almost) on show after his loss to Vitor Belfort at UFC 43….

Proof, if proof were indeed needed, that fighters really are a different breed – hugely athletic, remarkably skillful and hard as nails to boot. All in all, a fantastic sport. I commend it to the house.
