When you play your football on the village playing field like we do and you rely on contractors to cut the grass you don't always get the grass cut when it needs cutting if you get my drift ! Twice this season we have had the grass cut when it was about six inches long resulting in club members having to spend several hours raking it off the pitch ,the first time being before the game against Crane Sports on August 22nd and again last Saturday before the match with Bramford United. Spending a few days having a well earned break in brilliant sunshine on the south coast, it was left to first team manager Nathan Burrell to have a work out spending most of Friday with rake in hand clearing the pitch. Well done that man !
We picked up another three points against Bramford after a 4-2 win in a game where we played some good football but should have had more then four goals after we missed several decent chances especially after the break to add to our goal tally. Visiting keeper Connor Banthorpe made some excellent saves with the visitors twice clearing shots off the line. First half goals from Shaun Webb ,Nick Middlebrook and a penalty from Danny Garrard saw us grab three goals before the break while the lively Josh Lytees slotted home a brace for the visitors, with Webb completing the scoring just after the restart with a header from an Ant Jackson cross. Ryan Bedingfield made a couple of great saves during the second half with Dan Page having a good game in midfield alongside the teenager Jack Reddington, while Garrard and Middlebrook worked hard up front.
The only downside was the injury to defender Gary Collins who was helped off with a nasty knee injury which could keep him out for a few weeks.
Referee Brian Chapman controlled the game well talking to players when needed and playing some good advantages and was well supported by James Tebbit and Chris Cornish.
The Reserves started their league programme with a 3-1 win at Stonham Aspal. No more details available at present on this game.
