East Bergholt United

Benhall St Mary are a small village club, that won SIL senior status last year for the first time in their History last season. In their first season they finished smack bang in the middle of the division. They have started this season as brightly as the last. The facilities at Benhall have been upgraded and their hospitality is convivial. The quality of the pitch however is well below standard, i am sure it is something that they will look to improve on. The game was even for the first half hour, we probably tried to play too much football and frequently lost possession, whilst Benhall preferred the direct route. We conceded two quick goals in the closing stages of the half. We changed our tactics in the second half and tried to bombard Benhall, we had lots of play and pressure but not many clear cut chances, Benhall stood firm and defended resolutely. Benhall added a third goal with the last kick of the game.
That is three games for us this season, we have lost two of them three nil, which looks like we have been totally outplayed, that is far from the truth. We need to stop switching off defensively and need to take chances when we are up in games. We welcome Haughley to Gandish Road this Saturday.

2's/3's News
The Reserves and Threes both kicked off their campaigns with homes games against Westerfield Reserves and Stowupland Falcons Reserves.
The 2's were quickly out the gate and had Westerfield on the back foot straight away and deservedly took the lead through an excellent 20 yard strike from Will Harris. However, the rustiness was evident every time we conceded a corner and it wasn't surprising when Westerfield equalised with a free header at the far post. This didn't dent the spirits of the side and two more goals followed before half time via Leigh M and Geds.
Westerfield responded at half time with a change of shape and their superior fitness told as they dominated the second half. The score was soon 3-2 before Jay Downs missed a vital chance for us. With just 4 minutes on left on the clock Westerfield grabbed the point their second half performance probably deserved.
Gregors 3s got his manager career off to the perfect start with a comfortable 2-0 down at Fortress Flatford. The goals came from Dan Bass and Alex Cameron with good performances from Elliot Cutting and the returning Paul Lloyd. They will hope to keep up this good start next week when they welcome Framlingham As to Flatford whilst the 2s make the long journey up to Wenhaston.
