Well, the Ploughman came, he saw and he conquered as Capel left Greshams with the points after a 3-2 win and his boy even won the pub card!
.
Capel were the better side in the first half but they were indebted to Bedingfield who pulled off a top class save from Tim Street’s powerful dipping shot. Following this the visitors took the lead through Middlebrook before Bedingfield kept out good chances from Street and Keiran Turner.
.
After the break George Baldry finished well following good work by Virgilio Leitao but Cops conceded almost immediately, a coolly finished effort from Reddington. Middlebrook then wrapped things up when he had a free header from Garrard’s cross.
.
There was some naive defending as all of the visitors goals came from quick breaks after good pressure from Cops. Street scored a late goal for Cops but the result never looked in danger. Next week the first team travel to Haughley United.
.
In the meantime, the Reserves, also now playing at Greshams, managed to sustain their good start to the season with a 3-1 win over Sporting 87. In what was a close game, Josh Smith gave Cops a half time lead. Tom Akinjasu headed home a second before Sporting reduced the arrears. Charlie King was on target to wrap up the game for Cops. The Reserves make the long trek to Wenhaston next Saturday.
.
In midweek the TN U18 side lost 5-1 at home to Needham Academy. Josh Smith was on target again but the side probably didn’t do themselves justice. This coming Thursday they are at Notcutts Park again to face Stowmarket, ko 7.45pm.
.
The A and B teams start their league campaigns next week and with several players unavailable it will be a challenge to put out 4 teams for the first time this season. The A team host Wickham Market Reserves at the School whilst the B team travel to face Framlingham Town A.
.
Our thanks go to the Ipswich Mortgage Centre together with our kit sponsor Macron Centre Norwich for supplying our new 1st team kit and very smart it is too!
.
Finally, get well soon Mrs Ploughman who sustained a nasty injury whilst being directed by her husband to clean away some cobwebs on their farmhouse ceiling. There may be a shortage of cakes until she is fit again!
