The first team recorded their second win of the season on Saturday by three goals to two after a hard earnt three points at Greshams against Coplestonians on an excellent playing surface. I I received a warm welcome from my mate Scoop on what was a perfect afternoon for football and after chatting about what else but runner beans then moving on to him bemoaning the number of players that his club had lost at the start of the season we were underway. Danny Garrard hit the bar with a thirty yarder early on and we missed several more chances before a fine run by man of the match Gary Collins ended with Nick Middlebrook shooting over keeper Houchill for the opening goal after half an hour. Only a world class save by Ryan Bedingfield kept us in front after he somehow tipped a goalbound shot over the bar just before the break. Our opponents equalised soon after the restart following a freekick before skipper Shaun Webb put teenager Jack Reddington through and the talented youngster made no mistake to score his first goal for the first team. Middlebrook finished off a fine move for goal number three heading home a Garrard cross before Coplestonians pulled one back to set up a tight finish as we held out for the points. We knew that Bedingfield was one of the best keepers in local football when we signed him and he proved it today with a couple of excellent saves, while Gary Collins had another fine game at the back alongside Kieran Lawler ,and Garrard and Ant Jackson who has recovered from his facial injury did well. We lost Oliver Blew early on then Aaron Whitman through injury with two more of our returning injured, namely Stephen Morrison and Joe Bigmore replacing them. Morro, who has been out since November with knee and calf injuries came off at the end not limping which made a nice
change ! Matt Easton is still unfit but hoping to play again sometime during September. Referee James Tebbit had a fine game being well supported by his assistants Martin Burroughs and the evergreen Brian Chapman.
Our Reserves start their league games with a trip to Stonham Aspal next Saturday ,while the first team are at home to Bramford United.
