We pushed the self destruction button to allow Bramford to come from behind to win 3-2 on an awful pitch at Acton Rd. So for the 2nd opening game running we had the chance of 3 points & ended up with nothing. After playing so well the week before we had 4 players missing who we missed, Matty Butterfield in goal broke 2 ribs v Felixstowe the week before, Ash Davis suspended & Niall Hobson & Luke Reid away. We gave full debuts to Jack Johnston & Aaron Laughlin & in came Josh Cook in goal & Jack Allen. Bramford took an early lead when the oh so reliable Seaman miss controlled the ball & Steele put Bannister clean through to slot home past stand in keeper Cook. We struggled all half with the lively pitch that Bramford adapted to far more better, with Kieran Mandley & Taylor Bannister very lively up top. Our man of the match Josh Cook saved us going further behind with some smart stops in the first half to deny Mandley & Bannister. Our best chance of the half saw Jack Allen hit a hard drive over the bar from just inside the box. After a half time roasting from the management we started the 2nd half with more rigour. We replaced Johnston who found it tough going in the middle & brought on Joe Allen, Jack's brother for his debut & were rewarded with 2 fortunate goals on 50 & 54 minutes to go ahead. Laughlin played Smith through right side of the box to hit a hard low cross into the 6 yard box that hit Luke Moss & went in for an own goal. Then Zac Eales cross from wide 30 yards out on the right touchline sailed over Connor Banthorpe & in off the far post. At this point Bramford had got rattled & retaliation by De'ath & Bannister saw a lenient ref Price just book Bannister, when they could easily have been a man down. Unfortunately for us we changed our back four & it cost us with both subs giving away goals. Grant Gibson came on for the injured Jack Allen & within seconds man handled Mandley in the box after being rolled neatly by him & Mandley confidently stroked home from the spot on 70 minutes. 7 minutes later & Chris Cole on for his debut headed out of Cook's hands & Josh Lytees hooked the ball home 12 yards out in via the underside of the bar. We never mustered another chance as Bramford finished stronger creating further chances but being foiled by Cook. For Bramford Kieran Mandley was impressive with his clever play & Bannister was a real handful first half & also sub De'ath gave them strength & some neat & tidy play. So no points from two games played & a well below par performance. In the Suffolk Senior Cup 1st round we drew Eastern Counties side Haverhill Borough at home on October 20th. This week we travel to play local rivals Westerfield Utd at Ipswich School Sports Centre Rushmere. Our Reserves kick off their season at home to Framlingham Town 'A'. Well done to Alex, Leechie & the 4 players Harry Fulcher, Matt Carley, Josh Cook & Cameron Smith for their help to the club with committee members on the Fun Day on Bank Holiday Monday. MS
