Gemlins at Archant means that Achilles club notes are very late this week - apologies to our overseas and other far away supporters.
Last Saturday the Seniors were at Greshams for an SIL Senior League match against the "fleet of foot" Coplestonians Seniors. The match excellently covered by the Cops' reporter on this website was a nine goal thriller with Cops shading the match (being the first to five!).
Despite still holding second position in the SIL Senior table the result was certainly a setback for our free-scoring squad and take nothing away from Cops for the result.
No excuses but, in my long career, having played on and watched matches on the second Greshams pitch and I do understand that, to say the least, the conditions underfoot were trying!
On, clearly, a much better surface at Salmet Close the Inter A match between Achilles and Framlingham Town res' was quite a humdinger with Achilles shading the final result in a match producing five goals. In readiness for the SFA Senior Reserves Cup semi-final on the Woodbridge Town ground against Stowmarket's reserves, manager Reece Nunn had drafted in veterans, Lee Osborn and Ricky Deasy, and certainly their experience and know-how lifted the squad to a fine win.
This coming Saturday the Seniors are away at East Bergholt and a 2 00pm kick off in an SIL Bob Coleman cup-tie while the Inter As welcome Sporting 87 to Salmet Close.
Away from the park (just) praise to the new members of the Pauls Sports & Social Club's Management Committee for the hard work they are putting in to the Club and a special mention for former Achillian, Keith Debnam and colleaque for the fantastic work in tiling the clubhouse kitchen.
