Ransomes Sports

Ransomes journeyed up the A12 on Saturday for the fixture against newly-promoted Southwold Town. This was our third visit to Southwold from memory, the first two seeing the end of Ransomes involvement in county and league cups.
.
With a squad already missing a few names, things didn’t look good when we lost Ryan Sparrow with a nasty cut after an accidental clash of heads (10 stitches required) after a couple of minutes, then replacement Jason Downs, pulled a hamstring in his first chase. That gave young Jack Bell the opportunity to play most of the game though and boy did the lad grab his chance, turning in a great performance.
.
With the start-stop opening to the match, it took a longish spell for both sides to settle, the strong, keen wind across the exposed Common a factor too. Just on the half-hour mark, Ben Deacon dropped deep, neatly controlled the ball and fed Luke Winter whose sublime first touch took him clear of the home defence and he confidently slotted the ball past Saunders. Ransomes 1-0 up at the break.
.
Although Ransomes had to work really hard against a spirited Southwold, Callum Deacon in Ransomes goal had a pretty quiet afternoon and when brother Ben’s mazy run took him round the home keeper, who could only upend the Ransomes striker in his attempt to get to the ball, referee Phil South (new name to most of us in SIL, but an experienced ref who had an outstanding game) pointed to the spot. Calver’s hard low penalty first hit the inside of the post then seemed to rattle around most of the goal frame before finally nestling in the net. 2-0 to Ransomes the final score then in a very competent display, with Calver, Matthews, Silk, Winter & Smith all performing well, but the nod on MotM went to Adam Dawson. Superb.
.
Our chief match reporter/photographer/website guru Paul Deacon raced up to Southwold, dressed in his beach holiday gear following a quick change after work and shivering and shaking, somehow managed to survive the 90 minutes. Well done Doof, but bring a ganzie next time. Appreciate other clubs websites perhaps not for all, but if you have a minute, check out https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/ransomessportsfc2 Great stuff, Paul. Much appreciated.
.
No game for the 1st team next Saturday, but Ransomes Reserves kick off their Inter B season against Benhall St Mary Reserves at Sidegate Avenue at 2.30pm.
