Witnesham Wasps

Our first game of the season saw us travel to Gainsborough Sports centre to face the newly reformed Ipswich Exiles. We were expecting a tough game with Exiles tipped to be up at the higher reaches of the league this season, but we put in a great performance to kill the game effectively in the first 45 minutes.
4-2-3-1 was the chosen formation for this game and it worked instantly as we raced into a 4-0 lead with goals from Haque, two from new signing Flynn including a sweet strike from the edge of the box, and one from the returning Bloom.
We knew we couldn’t let up going into the second half and shortly after the restart four became five when great work down the right involving Haque and Danny Mac saw Danny fizz a perfect ball across the box for Bloom to grab his second and Witneshams fifth.
We added a sixth shortly after through Haque who harried the defender into a mistake and calmly slotted home for 6-0. Unfortunately for us we were denied a clean sheet when the Exiles attacker raced through to score for 1-6 but was miles offside to say the least. The referee decided to ignore his linesman and give the goal anyway which was disappointing all round but we moved on only to concede again shortly after when poor defending from a corner allowed the Exiles defender to nod home for 2-6.
A some what slack twenty minutes from the Wasps allowed our hosts a slim route back into the game but luckily for us Bloom was on hand to put the game to bed after good play from Gaunt played in Bloom to finish easily past the advancing keeper.
So all in all a resounding 7-2 win against a poor Exiles team on the day, but I’m sure they’ll improve as the season progresses. Special mention to Bloom who took his chances well along with Flynn and Ingham who had good games in the central defensive midfield roles, but MOTM this week went to new signing Bird who was a constant threat with his pace and continued Work rate to cap of a great debut.
Next week we make the long trip over to Bardwell Sports looking to avenge the 1-0 defeat from last season. Fingers crossed we can get the job done. UTW
