Old Newton United

So after being a little disappointed with the Bramford result in our opening game, last week we welcomed Achilles and what a game it turned out to be! I had a strong squad with a few lads slowly coming back from injuries and still some more to come back, which is looking good.
The game itself started at a fast pace, I could see Achilles were well organised and trying to get the ball forward as quick as they could to the dangerous lads up top but, my lads never gave them any time for prob 20/25 mins and Achilles where struggling to get out. Wayno had a decent shot from outside the box which the keeper had to turn over, but the killer blow came. Achilles getting down the right and a pin point cross allowed them to take the lead. This knocked the lads and we started chasing the game. Achilles got their second from a short corner, sloppy and lazy play resulted in a tap in, leaving Achilles buzzing. At half time a few words were said and I needed a reaction at start of the half. Achilles had a couple good chances but couldn’t get past Lockwood, we then began to grow into the game and from a corner Callum headed home. This spured the lads on and they started to ask few questions of Achilles back line with Wayno getting round the back. With the last 15 mins of the game it kicked into action, Achilles center half was sent to sin bin and Robbo and Cooke were introduced.
From another corner Ash had someone all over him, the ref had a full view and pointed to the spot which Wayno smashed home. 5 mins later Cooke was brought down for a pen, while Wayno was waiting another Achilles lad was sent to sin bin, however Wayno didnt convert this time. The lads dugin and kept going, Wayno had free kick towards back post only for Budge to head against pos, it then fell to Robbo who smashed into the ground and it ended up in the net. A really good win for the lads and the club so 4 points from 2 games, very happy with that!
MOTM went to Joji and his non stop running, well done.
There was no donkey this week as the lads put in a great shift, Wayno you were close though!
This week we take a trip down the A12 for our first away game at East Bergholt.
