East Bergholt United

East Bergholt United

Another season is upon us and there have been a few changes at the club ready for this year. The main one is that David Goodchild has stepped down as First team manager. Greif became manager at a very difficult time with the side facing possible relegation, however his inspirational words and tactics drove the side on to a series of points collecting performances which ensured we remained a senior club. We have managed to build on that and again feel like a established club at this level and much of that is due to Greif's hardwork and dedication to the club. He remains a part of the club and will be around on many match days but with is travel business resulting in many weekend tours away he couldn't give the role the complete dedication it required.
Stepping into the role is ex-player Leighton Chenery who was experienced management at Reserve level and is now taking on the challenge of the Senior Division. He will be supported by Dale Vince and Martin Peck as well as current assistant Ben Bibby. Bibs won't be playing this year as it has been confirmed he has damaged his crucial ligament in his knee and the surgeons knife awaits. Everyone in the club wishes him a speedy recovery. On the player front we are very pleased to have held onto the majority of last years side with just Matt Chinnery (retirement) and Ben Prime leaving. We wish Primey all the best at Cranes and look forward to seeing him when we play them. Leighton will look to continue to work with a very young squad and continue to bring through the talents that we have nurtured over the last couple of years. On that front, Gregor has signed a number of younger players will make up the core of our A team and I hope they enjoy their football, with us.
Other changes within the club are new goals which have been purchased thanks to our record fundraising and bar takings last year-A big thank you to Bar manager Jamie Greig for his brilliant efforts in convincing us all to drink more! With the pitch looking as good as always and new goals, Gandish is a wonderful place to play your football-even if I am very biased! Training at the High School begins on Wednesday 4th September at 8:00pm on the 3g surface and all players are expected to attend.
This Saturday the football gets underway with the Ones off to Bourne Vale whilst the A team will host Benhall reserves at Flatford Lane. Good luck to both sides and lets hope we can start the season off on a positive!
The first fundraiser of the year has begun in the form of the clubs Fantasy Football League and with over 40 entries this should be a highly competitive competition. I look forward to seeing if anyone can stop me winning this year! The annual Quiz night will be on Saturday 28th September-Players make sure this is in your diaries!
Finally, its a special year for all involved at East Berghoit United ad we celebrate our 125th year in 2020. An incredible achievement for a village football club and one we are all proud of. Plans are afoot for an event on Easter Sunday which will include Junior, Womens and Mens team matches. We are also looking to invite as many ex players or people associated with the club to the event. If you would like details please contact the clubs many social media channels.
