Ransomes Sports

Last Saturday saw both teams in action at Ipswich School’s Rushmere Sports Centre, with the Reserves meeting Stage FC and the 1st team against Westerfield Utd.
.
Mastering the windy conditions Reserves and Stage got the ball down and into feet, producing some very neat football.
.
Stage were unlucky to lose their first-choice keeper early on with a dislocated finger and we wish him well for a very speedy recovery in time for the start of the season.
.
Ransomes had the upper hand in the first part of the half, with Howlett & Ablitt imposing themselves and Morley stretching the Stage defence, but were restricted to some long-distance shooting that rarely troubled the Stage keeper(s). Stage began to get into the match with some strong running and passing, but again Groom in the Ransomes goal was only called into real action on a couple of occasions, one fizzing shot in particular safely tipped over.
.
The introduction of Procter in the second half produced an instant result for Ransomes as he cleverly controlled a high ricochet and picked his spot to give his side the lead. It stayed that way for a while, with both sides delivering some good build up play, but just failing to find that final telling ball. Ransomes doubled their lead in the last quarter of the match, when A Trialist (crumbs he gets around) curled in a beauty from 18 yards. Stage never gave up though and snatched a lifeline in the dying minutes, firing home a loose ball following a corner.
.
Shortly afterwards, referee Bob Wakeling who was in top form throughout, signalled the end of a very entertaining match. Our thanks to him and to the Stage FC lads for an excellent afternoon.
.
On the Main Pitch, the 1st team were on top for most of the match against Westerfield. The Ransomes lads went 2 up fairly early on, but Spreads' team although missing one or two regulars, managed to get back to 2-2, before Ransomes re-took the lead, then rattled in another handful of goals in the latter stages to run out convincing winners. Winter (2), Morris (3), Alderson (2) & Todd all on the mark for Ransomes. Lovely to see Daniel Pearson make a welcome return after a long absence. The Westerfield outfit were no doubt relieved to hear Toby Cousins, again turning in his usual high-standard performance, blow the final whistle. Our sincere thanks to Fred and all at Westerfield for their hospitality.
.
All best wishes to Westerfield and to Stage for the coming season.
.
Next week sees both Ransomes sides at Old Newton, before the 1st team season starts on the 24th August away to Coddenham.
