Bit of catching up to do on friendlies to date.
.
First off, the awful news that you may well have heard already, Ben Taylor suffering a broken leg in the opening seconds of the 1st team friendly at Leiston. Tragic accident and obviously we all wish Ben a speedy and full recovery. Leiston FC were superb on the evening and subsequently have raised a very sizeable sum indeed for Ben’s fund. The officials on the night donating their fees too. Superb. Our sincere thanks to all and to those other local clubs who have sent their best wishes. Really appreciated. Ransomes is of course conducting a range of fund-raising events for Ben. Moe to follow on that.
.
The previous Saturday had seen us at Somersham for a double-header, where both Ransomes teams ran out fairly comfortable winners, the star of the show being Ransomes’ Veron Procter who notched a second-half hat-trick in the Reserve match. Barry “Mr Somersham” Smith worked his socks off and was the perfect host on the day. Our sincere thanks to him and the whole Somersham outfit for what was an excellent day, before, during and after-match. First class. Referees Flaherty & Hart more than played their part in two very sporting encounters.
.
Last Saturday saw the 1st team at Capel Plough, with Ransomes turning in their best display so far, recording an impressive 4-1 victory. Leading 1-0 at half time through a J Downs strike just before the break, Ransomes were pulled back level after a very neat finish a couple of minutes into the second period, before turning on the style and rattling in 3 goals from D Allen, A Trialist (how many teams has he turned out for already?) and S Morris. Calver (or was it Rands?) is still shaking his head after miscuing from two yards, then smacking a penalty against the bar. Many thanks to Sean Tynan, Pat and the rest of the Capel outfit for their contribution to the day and to referee Brennan Butcher who marked his first pre-season run out with a very fine game.
.
Ransomes Reserves meanwhile had driven past Capel, down to Lawford for a match against the Lads Reserves. Connor Morley stole the headlines with a goal in each half for his new team, both superbly taken. Lawford came back strongly after that, but only managed to breach the Ransomes’ defence once to leave the young Ransomes outfit 2-1 winners.
.
This Saturday sees both teams in action at the Ipswich School Sports Centre at Rushmere, where Westerfield Utd host the match against Ransomes 1st team, with Stage FC providing the opposition for Ransomes Reserves. Both games kick off at 2.30pm.
