The first team earned a hard fought 1-1 draw with title aspirants Henley Athletic at the weekend which set things up nicely for the Bob Coleman Cup semi-final between the sides this coming Saturday.
Henley are a talented outfit as evidenced by their recent 3-0 victory over Achilles but Cops defended well and hit them on the break to deny them the 3 points they desperately needed.
Jamie Cowan fired home after 47 minutes but Jamie Eaton-Collins grabbed the equaliser for Cops 7 minutes later when he latched onto a through ball from Lewis Owen. So it’s all set up for this weekend’s encounter which I’m sure will be a close fought affair.
The Reserves were engaged in a what I would describe as a feisty TPT Cup semi-final tie with Trimley Reserves. Yellow was the dominant feature of the afternoon with numerous cards of that colour being necessary for the Officials to keep control of affairs! In the end it was Trimley who advanced to the final as they scored a winner in extra time. Liam Stevens was the goal scorer for Cops.
The A team had to start their match with 10 men at Haughley Reserves with two players calling off at late notice. In the event it was a fine performance by the ten who only went down by the odd goal in five. Goals from Harry Dixon and Dan Driver not quite enough to cause an upset.
So, on Saturday the 1st team are at Henley, ko 2pm; the Reserves travel to Mendlesham ko 2.30pm, whilst the A team take a rest.
The Cops ECL U18’s went down 3-0 to a good Whitton side in midweek and play again this Thursday when they travel to Ipswich Wanderers ko 7.45pm.
Cop Ladies also went down 4-1 to higher placed opposition, Brantham Ladies but the other Ladies sides came up trumps. The U11’s had a good 5-0 win with Magdelana scoring a fine hat-trick. The U12’s won 7-2 at Long Melford with Megan scoring 5 goals and Erin 2 goals. However, the stand out win was the U14’s beating Stowupland 3-1 to reach a Cup FInal with goals from Mila, Harmony and an og.
