Another excellent week-end for the Club with the Seniors registering a crushing 9-1 win up the A12, at the most unfortunate Wenhaston Utd, while the Reserves at home at Salmet Close proceeded to the final of the SIL Trevel Plus Cup, via a fine 3-1 win margin over the excellent second string of Framlingham Town.
After the departure of a number of their Senior players, including their manager, to "big brother", Halesworth Town, during the close season, it's very much to Wenhaston's credit that they are battling away as best they can in what is feared a vain attempt to maintain their Senior status.
As it was the Seniors, back to something like top form after their reverse against fellow League title chasers, Henley FC., a fortnight previously had little trouble in boosting our goal difference through Darryn Van Oene (3), and John Boorman, Ivan Buxton, Sean Hanley, Lewis Kinkaid, Matty Ryland, one each, plus an "og".
With Henley sharing the points with the dangerous Coplestonians, and our "games to play" advantage, the fight for top SIL place is on again with a vengeance. However, it's the Suffolk FA Senior Cup semi' against those Henley boys first or, indeed, the SIL Bob Coleman Cup semi' at Greshams against old rivals, Crane Sports, to worry about even before that.
Meanwhile, "creeping up on the rails" we have our regularly improving Reserves so increasingly well managed by Chris Crick and Leo Wyatt who are well in the race for the "A" Division "top spot" and now, via that fine Cup win over Framlinham Town Reserves , are seeking "the double" of Cup and League.
The well controlled match itself was a credit to both squads with our visitors ahead by a single goal at the break and our lads taking over in the second period through Matt McCarthy (2) and JP Taylor to set up a final against further "A" Division rivals, Trimley Red Devils Reserves.
Both wins were the perfect "starter" for the well-attended Race Night expertly organised by Committee-man, Simon Revell, and a superb financial return on the night has even met with the approval of Club Treasurer, Malc' Saunders. Many thanks, Simon, for your hard work for the Club.
This week involves the Seniors in the short trip to Greshams for that Bob Coleman Cup match while the Reserves welcome Bacton Utd's Reserves to Salmet Close for a hastily arranged "A" Division match.
