We haven’t been very active on green’un notes this year, but thought I’d pop some up ahead of our end of season run in.
2018 was a great year for the football club, with earning promotion to Division 1 for the first time in our short history. Division 1 has been a pretty big learning curve at times. We have had the pleasure of visiting some great clubs, with some fantastic facilities. The likes of Ransomes, Sporting 87 & Bacton.
It’s also provided us with fixtures with some big clubs visiting our little home ground at School Road. The School Road pitch has had a lot of work improving it. The committee have all contributed in making the surface the best possible. We had Will Parker come over and give his expertese over it and the purchase of a mower meaning we can cut it ourselves. The additions of dugouts and also sponsor boards along the School Road side of the pitch, it’s starting to look like a proper football ground.
We have had some very competeitive games in the division against some big clubs, and we are proud of what we are achieving at Coddenham Athletic. We understand are fully involved in an relegation battle. But so are 8 other clubs in the division. It’s very tight in the bottom half of the table this season, and with some big 6 pointers coming up, we’ll see where we lie in the next 4 weeks.
This season has been hard at times with availability, last season we were a strong same 14 each week, this year we haven’t been so lucky. With suspensions and injuries. (George Kirby has been out for most of the season with an ACL injury & Max Skinner missing the first half dozen games due to a reaccuring ankle injury)
Last weekend, we lost our game with Stanton due to a frozen pitch, a large area at one of the ground doesn’t get any sun on it was still rock solid from the mid week freeze. So the decision was to postpone the fixture.
This weekend we travel to Stowupland to face Falcons in just one of the upcoming 6 pointers. We’ll be without Sillett (away), MacDonald (calf) & top scorer Gardiner (suspended). But we’re well up for this fight.
